Dedicated in 1925 and abandoned after Katrina, Our Lady of Lourdes sits in the heart of Uptown on Napoleon Avenue. I can't find too much info on it, other than that it was sold in April 2016 for $1.3M to 616 Girod, LLC. That address is home to the New Orleans Opera Association, so we'll see how that pans out. The church is now abuzz with construction activity, including a chain link fence and Woodward Design + Build signs. I can't find anything on their website about it, or anywhere on the internet for that matter, so I have no idea how the building will be used once finished.
I've been sitting on these photos for a while now. Despite the no trespassing signs, the front doors were unlocked and cracked open. My fear was that if I posted them before the rest of the church had been cleaned out, vandals might have found their way in and broken the beautiful stained glass and made off with the massive church bell.
If you have any info on the building or stories you'd like to share, please leave a comment below. Enjoy!
Just a reminder: I never break in - anywhere. If it's locked up, I simply move on my way. I take only pictures and leave only footprints. It's all about respect.
